Fogging operations is on its way now in Cogon district. Residents should note that fogging will only be done in known areas were dengue fever cases are reported. Also, fogging will only be done if ‘Search and Destroy’ operation is already done by the residents on possible mosquito breeding places.
*City health authorities prodded city residents to personally conduct search and destroy of known dengue sources in their homes even as apathy and resistance of a number of residents to such moves were observed by barangay officials.
*Amidst the clamor for fogging operations because of mounting dengue cases, DOH regional officials reluctantly declared dengue outbreak in barangays Cogon and Dao.
*Fogging operations are against DOH policy without official declaration of an outbreak by health authorities.
The Barangay Officials should focus their program about Dengue. Most especially the clean-up of their barangay surroundings. Barangay officials should initiate a program to enhance their constituents to be more knowledgeable about dengue, especially the causes of it. They focus more on preventive measure, before it would affect their respective barangays. The Health Dept. should do more allocation on their campaign drive about DENGUE, to enhance the people their respective responsibilities in Prevention….
We have heard of hundreds of suggestions to combat this dengue fever. The health department should implement those suggestions (eg fogging, spraying etc) to prevent the spread of the fever and at the same time, the goverment (local and provincial level) implement an extensive program of education and dessimination of information on Dengue fever. It’s back to the basics (clean surroundings). This is the only way to prevent Dengue fever. As they say, prevention is the best medicine.
We people are getting sick, it’s not the government. So perhaps we should careless asking for government action, instead, do our responsible means of cleaning up our environment (which, I think, is the most effective way to combat mosquitoes). If the government and NGOs extend their helping hands, that should only come as a bonus to our efforts. I think it’s time to stop pointing fingers to who else can help us and start pointing that finger to ourselves and help ourselves.
We do have many civic organizations hereat and it can be manned by a member doctor, a nurse, a midwife or anybody
i happen to be in dumaguete before during the same occurence of dengue outbreak; civic organizations sponsored free CBC, like monday Rotary, tuesday Lions and so on a 24 hour basis until dengue slows down
when anybody had fever they just go for a free CBC hence early detection
we had a lot of them here in our city
I believe it’s high time that LGU’s should institutionalize dengue prevention and control programs in their respective turfs. With newly installed officials, this concern should be on top of all priorities given the significance that the disease has already cost several tender lives. After all, dengue is not new; unlike the SARS which has not yet established a pattern of occurrence. It is a fact that dengue strikes during the onset of rainy season because of the stagnant waters that serves as breeding places of the carrier mosquitoes. So why wait for children to die before acting on the problem. Why not prevent the problem before the rainy days come. If LGU’s were able to institutionalize the “S.O.P.” thing in their system, why can’t they do the same for dengue prevention programs?
The city and provincial governments should double the efforts in the information drive against dengue fever. It is something that can be prevented and the prevention is very basic (clean up surroundings, no stagnant water, etc). The media should also help disseminate the information more actively.
