Having Problems Accessing the Broadcast?
Jun 9th, 2007 by Admin
Known Problems:
- I’m abroad and I have poor signal on DYRD-AM Worldwide broadcast. — Technically, there is no “signal” to worry about because the broadcast is done via the Internet. So it doesn’t matter where you are, the broadcast quality will be the same given that your Internet service is able to provide at least 20kbps of bandwidth reliably. The key term is ‘reliably’ because if that 20kbps is not reliable and consistent, your browser will keep stopping and buffering. If the audio you hear has static or buzzing noise, please let us know via comments on this page. We are normally able to resolve this type of problem quickly.
- If I call DYRD-AM, I cannot hear myself immediately. There seems to be a 30 second to 1 minute delay. — This is actually not a problem but a characteristic of audio streaming technology. Because the Internet in general is bursty in nature, meaning the data transfer is done in bursts of large amount of data rather than a steady stream of data, the audio streaming programs store some amount of data before playing it so that the audio that is played is continuous.
- The audio that comes out is yesterday’s program. — This happens because the browser may cache the data it received the last time you used the player. Just click on the Live Radio link again so that the browser refreshes the page. You may need to do this a few times to clear out the old data.
- Many users find problems when using Internet Explorer. We suggest you replace Internet Explorer with the Firefox Browser and make sure to install the Flash plug-in when you are prompted to do it. Firefox browsers have lesser problems and is faster also. Download the latest version on the Firefox button on the top of the left column of this page. You should also install Google toolbar for convenient access to various services.
- The player keeps on ‘Buffering’. — This may happen if you have used the live radio in a previous session and you want to access it again. It is not clear what causes this but delete browser cache or private data may help resolve this issue. In most cases, simply refreshing the web page and then clicking on Play again will work. If still it does not work, try replacing your browser with Firefox on the link below. Firefox has lesser problems based on our testing. You will need to install the Flash plug-in. Just follow the instructions on the browser that will come up when you try to access the Live broadcast to install it. Download the latest version on the Firefox button on the top of the left column of this page. You should also install Google toolbar for convenient access to various services.
- ‘Error opening file’. — Refreshing the web page should solve this. If not, try the latest version of Firefox.
